Frequently Asked Questions

Violin Peeking

-Should I rent or buy an instrument?

This depends on your budget and the student’s age. For adults, it is better to purchase an instrument because you will not outgrow it.

For children, renting an instrument is usually the better option because you can get a new instrument every time the child outgrows the smaller one.

Renting also keeps things simpler for you because the rental facility performs general maintenance on the instrument.

-What do I look for in a private lesson music teacher?

A private teacher should be positive and well-experienced on their given instrument.

One of the most important aspects in choosing a music teacher is the student’s ability to communicate with and feel comfortable around the teacher.

The teacher should give the student a lot to work on without pushing him or her beyond his or her given capability.

-What age can I start my child in private lessons?

Usually, children as young as four years old can start on private piano lessons, and those age seven can start on string instruments. If you want your child to play a wind or brass instrument, you should wait until he or she is eight- to ten-years-old since these instruments require mature breath support. Toddlers typically respond well to general music classes, because these classes make them comfortable with identifying sounds, musical notation, and expressing themselves through music.

-Do you offer private lessons for adults?

Private lessons for adults are very popular. Learning a musical instrument with a child can really facilitate the child’s musical education, and music lessons are a great hobby.

-How many lessons are covered in the lesson fee?

Lessons are paid for in groups of four- $110 for four, 30-minute lessons or $200 for four, 60-minute lessons.

-Are there additional fees?

There is no registration fee. Your teacher will let you know what books to purchase. Books are not covered in the lesson fee.
